Lord of the Flies vs. “Mean Girls” Power terrorizes the weak. In both “Mean Girls” by Tina Fey and William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, except they show this in very different ways; “M ean Girls” is light hearted and silly unlike Lord of the Flies which is dark and serious. For example in “Mean Girls” the Burn Book gets passed out, while in Lord of the Flies people die. They may have the same message but the delivery is much different.
In Lord of the Flies unlike in “Mean Girls” it is based all on young boys age’s four to twelve. This changes a lot because they haven’t lived very long so they are immature and they tend to fight more with their fists rather than their words. Because of this the environment is more dangerous; there is a chance you could be killed. And there is no adult supervision so there is no one to step in when a group of kids tries to kill someone. Sadly in this novel there were only a few good people who truly wanted to be rescued. I think this is one of the main reasons evil won in the novel. And the biggest difference is unlike in “Mean Girls” was no happy ending to this novel. Good did not win.
“Mean Girls” had a similar message to LOTF, it tells about the evil in all of us but in a more fun and playful way. This movie dealt with mostly girls, so the way they fought and the things they fought about were much different. Instead of fighting with their fists they fought with their words, and instead of fighting over who should be leader they fought over boys. Because these girls were older they had slightly more mature ways of fighting, and they had adults to get involved. Unlike in LOTF there were many good people against very few bad people. So because of this I think that is why good came out the winner. Also unlike in LOTF there was no real evil just people’s insecurities.
As I've said before both LOTF and “Mean Girls” share a similar message, they both show the bad in people. In both the book and the movie they have a symbol for evil, in LOTF it’s the pigs head and in “Mean Girls” it’s the Burn Book. Both these things represent the evil within mankind. They also share the fact that they have villains, in “Mean Girls” it’s Regina Jorge and in LOTF it’s Jack. They both cause people pain and make them feel bad about themselves. And in both the book and the film the powerful victimize the weak. In LOTF Jack and his gang try to attack Ralph, where in “Mean Girls” Regina and her gang try to attack everyone else.
So as you can see both the book and the movie have similar messages just very different ways of delivering them. “Mean Girls” is light hearted and happy, while LOTF is dark and serious.
